The Web is a massive machine intelligence that barely even notices other life. All that is known is that they are in some way related to the Nagas and that they are embarked on engineering projects of staggering proportions - and they will let nothing stand in the way of their completion. So now that they have noticed humanity, and humanity has actually beaten them in battle with the help of the enigmatic Overmind, they're not about to let this potential threat stand. Humans cannot hope to prevail against the Web's vast numbers and technology. They're going to have to come up with a plan, and fast, or else the Web will enact their own.

Battlemind is in some ways an amalgam of the last two books. It has much of the philisophical discovery and exploration of possibilities of Symbiont, but the energy and intensity of Netlink. There is significantly less emphasis on battles here than in most of the books in the mileu. Indeed, there is only one fight - but it's a real doozy. And the concepts Keith explores in this novel are rather extraordinary. His last book took the Warstrider series in a whole new direction, and he manages to do it yet again in this one.

To be honest, I have no real complaints about this book. Perhaps I might wish the epilogue were longer; instead of characters discussing what they're going to do, readers might see it actually done. But it's not really necessary, I admit. Readers have already seen, if not their actions, then the consequences of them. I voice this wish not because the ending is actually porr but because I just don't want anything this good to end.
