Discworld's most popular inept wizard is back!
Rincewind was blasted into the Dungeon Dimensions at the end of Sourcery. But he blundered into a way back when he gets summoned back by a novice demonologist named Eric. Unfortunately, that method has some drawbacks. Such as the demonologist expecting Rincewind to deliver him three wishes. Such as Eric being not yet fourteen years old and thus incapable of listening to what passes for reason on the Discworld. Such as how Rincewind, haveing been summoned as a demon, seems to have somehow acquired a few of their abilities but naturatlly none of the requisite control of them. And such as, and this is very important, the King of Demons being royally ticked off at how Rincewind had accidentally taken the place of the quite serviceably vile demon he'd wanted Eric to call up.
Rincewind's newfound powers take them all on a nice little jaunt around the Disc. But although it is a very widespread jaunt in both time and space, it is nevertheless a bery short one to the reader. The book doesn't even reach two hundred pages. Doesn't come close, really, and that's with a sizable typeface and lots of extra room between lines.
But other than its length there's not much to complain about. Pratchett's writing, as usual, is light and humorous, if never outright hilarious. Rincewind bumbles about from one situation to another, never in any real control yet by virtue of quick thinking and a good set of running legs manages to get out of the frying pan again and again. It's a nice little story, yet another installment of Rincewind's many misadventures, and it's well worth your time to give it a look. Especially since it will take so little time.
