Dominc Magnus has successfully taken over Bleek Munitions, so he needs no longer worry about the Colonel going after his old employees in order to get at him. And he's figured out exactly what Klaus and the TEC are up to. Problem is, he's stuck in a town under siege. He can't get out to do anything about it! And if something isn't done within the next month or so, the planet will fall and the TEC will have won. Luckily, he does have a few cards up his sleeve. There's what Shane found in the caverns beneath the continent. And there's the enigmatic Proteus Seed, the last remnant of a commune so technologically advanced it's nearly magical.

Like the others, this concluding book in the Hostile Takeover series has no real faults that I can put my finger on. It is technically well conceived, the characters are portrayed well and believably, and the plot is interesting. But like the others, it just never really grabbed me. Yes, it was interesting. But it was not fascinating.

I hate writing reviews like this. There's no reason I can give why it doesn't get a better grade. About the only flaw I found was that one of the characters that was included as the inner cadre in Profiteer has been quietly dropped by the time this book comes around, and another much more involved character is rendered impotent for two-thirds of the text. But that isn't really the reason i didn't enjoy it as much as I could. Frankly, I don't know why. It is a perfectly adequate book. It just does not excell.
