A geologist dies in a car rollover on his way to a Montana oil drilling site, and it is called an accident. Shortly afterwards a young well worker is killed. What's going on? Are they somehow related? And what could a geologist possibly discover that someone would kill to keep hidden?

The book starts with the main character, Emily, learning of the first death. But after a few good, moody pages, there's fifty more! Those fifty pages detail life on the rig, its operations, and the caracters who run it. But other than the occasional thought that something was a little odd about the accident, or that this person or that is acting oddly, there is no attention given to the main plot. The characters are abrasive and the lifestyle is boring - as is the book, since nothing is really going on.

I don't mind mysteries. I can even like them, particularly when they can manage to include a tist of fantasy or science fiction in them. But while Andrews was great in setting a scene, the plot just took too long to get started. Perhaps someone who enjoys mysteries for being mysteries, and not as a type of plot within an entirely different genre, would like this book. But unfortunately it never really managed to catch my interest.
