The Great Hunt, the second of the series, is in many ways a simpler novel than its predecessor. While the first book in the series split itself into several threads for a while as it followed the different characters, The Great Hunt only splits into two. In addition, both of these threads are faily linear. In one, Egwene and Nynaeve go to the White Tower to begin their formal training to be Aes Sedai. In the other, the main story, the Horn of Valere, capable of summoning the great heroes of old to fight, has been stolen, along with the dagger Mat needs to live. Clearly, they both must be retrieved.
But even though it is simpler in many ways, that does not mean it is worse. It's a touch slower to start than the first book, taking nearly a hundred pages for the action to really begin, but after that things move well. Nearly everything that happens inside the cover is neccessary for Rand and his companions to finally realize their destinies. And the climax is even better than the first book's.
This is an excellent continuation of the Eye of the World, and necessary reading for the series. As such, it's almost pointless to review it at all, except to say how it adds to the series as a whole. I think it does quite well there.
