Skeeve and Aahz did fairly well for themselves in fighting the mad wizard Isstvan. They're alive, for one thing, which is almost always a plus. They also came out of it with a nice place to call their own, even if it is a somewhat decrepit inn. But their digs might get a major improvement if they get the job of royal magician. Of course, that would involve fighting the biggest army ever assembled on Klah. Skeeve has come a long way, but he's not that good yet!

Given the scenario they have to contend with, it should be no surprise that they rely on wits and trickery to fight their foe. And there is no doubt it is amusing to watch. Skeeve and Aahz talk their way out of trouble just as well and often as they talk their way into it, but they work very well together.

This sequel lacks some of the delicious reparte of the original. And there are some aspects to the story that are not in the least bit plausible. But seeing just how outrageous things are is a major portion of the fun. While it lacks a certain flair present in Another Fine Myth, by no means is this a bad book. It's still a great way to spend a couple of hours.
