Willard Phule is one of the richest men in the galaxy. He is also an officer in the Space Legion, a force that sells its commissions and will accept absolutely anyone into its ranks. As a result, the force is somewhat motley. But that's okay. Phule is not exactly the person you want around if you're after by-the-book thinking. And when he's given two hundred losers and misfits to whip into shape, then he's determined to do it - by any means neccessary.
The book is a riot. Phule stays within the rules, most of the time... but even then it is only barely. Clearly this is not how you're supposed to do things. He gets away with it because he can afford it. Despite being able to buy corporations on a whim, however, he is a surprisingly easygoing guy to empathize with.
By no means whatsoever is this book realistic. Don't look for this expecting to read great military fiction, or get a look at the future. I'm not even sure the character interactions are realistic at all. Some of them just seem unlikely to go the way they do. No, this is simply a great story. It's a lot of fun, particularly the competition between Phule's forces and the regular army's elite special units forces. I was grinning that entire chapter. But no, this is an unlikely story. But fun. Lots of fun!
