Someone needs Zaphod. They need him and they need his ship, the Heart of Gold. Nobody's quite sure what for, but he can't seem to avoid it. Between trying to help and trying to keep him from helping, he, Ford, Trillian, Arthur, and Marvin are sent cartwheeling through time and space. From two million years ago all the way to the end of the universe, where you can get some very good Pan Galactic Gargle Blasters.

There's not much here that's very different from The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy. The story's different, of course, but Adams' perfectly twisted phrasing remains, as do his entertaining tangents. The book is short and utterly nonsensical, and that's the way we like it, thank you.

For some reason this book isn't quite the classic that the first became. Nevertheless, if you liked the one, you'll like the other. Of course, the flip side is that if you didn't like the first, you'll hardly enjoy the sequel. It takes a very special mind to really enjoy these books to their fullest.
